How widespread is its use?

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crome (2006), the world-wide consumption of cocaine is currently around 600 metric tons in total, with the average consumption rate being around 1.5% The United States had the highest rate of consumption amoung individuals aged 15- 64, around 2.8%, Spain consuming around 2.7%, and the United Kingdom consuming 2.4% (world drug report, 2006). More recent surveys from the United Nations report (2007) have indiciated that Spain is overtaking America in its consumption of Cocaine at 3%, whilst the United States rate is (2.8%), England and Wales (2.4%), Canada (2.3%), Italy (2.1%), Bolivia (1.9%), Chile (1.8%), and Scotland (1.5%) (world drug report, 2007)
